Here's a fine example of a sitemap that does not qualify as a useful tool - (in my opinion).

It appears to me that the web designer was either attempting to show off their skills or they just love making detailed pages for a site. Of course I was wrong one other time:-)
On the other hand, it's tidier than the sitemap of google - (In my opinion)

It should come as no surprise to those of you who visit this site that many things shared here are something I stumble upon while searching for something entirely different.
Sites where the visitor explores are the kind of sites I personally enjoy and sites that I'd like to design, but from the perspective of a web designer I realize sites of exploration are rarely in the best interest of a client.
Ho-hum...back to the salt mines.

One thing we always tell our clients is, "A well designed site will have a simple navigation structure. You don't want to lock anyone out of your site because they feel lost."

While there are some cases where a PDF file is useful, for the most part people don't like to hit on a page and break the flow of cruising the web to open a PDF page.
If you're going to have a PDF page on your site always, always, always, place a note next to the link that it is a PDF.

The first part of the script marked title is what will appear when a person mouses over the actual text.
The href is of course the URL for the link you've chosen and the target="_blank" part of the script will open a new browser. The actual text on the page is the last section just before the ending which closes the script.

As I cruise blogs; word and photoblogs, I notice links on sites of communities used by bloggers. Sometimes they've installed a badge with multiple ways to share their post. Typically I accidentally find the badge when my mouse hovers over it as I attempt to click on another link.
