As I peruse web sites, blogs, and photoblogs, I'm amazed how many times the links to other sites do not open in a new browser and I think to myself, "Why do they do that to themselves? They just sent someone to another site and the likelihood of the person returning is nil."
Just recently I had a person ask me how to make a hyperlink open a new browser and I was amazed they didn't know because they had been working with sites for many years. Sometimes as a designer I take it for granted that people know the simple things I refer to as the Kindergarten of Design and I'm wrong to make such assumptions.
If you have a blog or a photoblog with a reciprocal link to a directory where you're listed and you don't know how to make their site open in a new browser, here is the script:
That script will function like this:

Of course you would change the URL to where you want your link to go and the words would also be changed to reflect the name of the site. Sometimes those directories already have the target="_blank" in the script provided and if they do, don't add another one, but if they don't, by all means add that part to the hyperlink script.
If you have a site you paid for a web design company to design and they have a hyperlink to their site on your site and their site doesn't open in a new browser, remember you are the client and you are paying for that space. Contact them and have them change it so the link to their site opens in a new browser.
